There are countless charities looking for donors, but some charities end up having a much farther reaching impact than others. The charities below do a tremendous amount of good in the U.S. and globally as they fulfill their missions. - Direct Relief
Since 1948, Direct Relief has been providing medical assistance to people in need because of disaster or poverty. California’s largest international nonprofit has provided more than $3.4 billion in essential medical supplies since 2000 for critical health emergencies. After Hurricane Maria, 76 tons of medical supplies were sent to Puerto Rico.

Since 1954, MAP International has focused on saving the lives and improving the living conditions of the poverty-stricken in more than 115 countries. This international Christian health organization partners with both local community leaders and more than 300 organizations to prevent disease and aid in disaster relief. They are well-known for improving water supplies in poverty-stricken communities.
- The Rotary Foundation
The Rotary Foundation’s global network of 1.2 million dedicated members focus on the most critical humanitarian needs. One of their primary initiatives is Polioplus. To date, more than 2.5 billion children in 122 countries have been immunized through their mission to eradicate polio.
- Samaritan’s Purse
A Christian charity, Samaritan’s Purse bas been ministering to those in need throughout the world since 1970. One of their most well-known endeavors is Operation Christmas Child. More than 135 million poor children throughout the world have received shoeboxes packed with gifts and toiletries. Their World Medical Mission also sends doctors and medical supplies to countries lacking adequate health resources.
Americares responds to worldwide health emergencies. Since 1979, more than $12 billion has been spent on humanitarian aid in 164 nations. One of their primary initiatives is promoting stronger local healthcare systems through the education of local healthcare workers.
- Catholic Medical Mission Board
CMMB’s stated mission is “healthier lives worldwide.” A faith-based organization, CMMB partners with local groups to save and improve the lives of impoverished mothers and children in Africa, the Caribbean, and Latin America.
